It’s worth noting that the semi-shift in direction isn’t anything near selling out, just perhaps a poor decision in production – it’s something that is a “fan gripe” and something you should be able to get past. We most definitely did, over and over again. It’s a pleasant listen from start to finish and proves that Lovedrug is plenty alive.

Musically, it’s equal parts PJ Harvey and Frank Turner, with masterful instrumentation backing Mitchell’s voice that is both child-like and boisterous in equal parts, if that makes any sense. You’ll likely enjoy her voice immensely, and if you give it plenty of time to digest, you’ll enjoy the message, as well.

The listen was a brilliant combination of lyrics that were intense at times and whimsical at others, but the vocals always managed to maintain their quirky flourish. I’ll be going back to retroactively listen to everything this woman has ever put out, even if her message doesn’t necessarily grab me.
